Charleston Southern University guard A’lahn Sumler has been named the Big South Conference Player of the Week, following a standout performance that included a triple-double. The announcement was made by the conference on Monday.
Sumler led all players in the Big South during the week with an average of 28 points per game, which was 4.5 points higher than the next highest scorer, Logan Duncomb from Winthrop. He also topped the league in assists for the week, averaging 5.5 per game—a category he currently leads for the season. Additionally, Sumler averaged nine rebounds per game, ranking fifth in that statistic across the conference last week. His field goal percentage was 48.8%, placing him among the top ten shooters.
In Charleston Southern’s first game of the week against Gardner-Webb, Sumler scored 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds in just 27 minutes as his team secured a win. Later in the week, he achieved a triple-double with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists—the first triple-double by a Charleston Southern player since Phlandrous Fleming Jr. accomplished it in 2020.
Charleston Southern will conclude its regular season with two remaining games: one at home against Winthrop on February 26 at 7:00 PM and another away at UNC Asheville on February 28 at 2:00 PM.
