Sola Adebisi set a personal best with 27 points as The Citadel defeated Wofford 93-90 in overtime on Saturday at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. This win marked The Citadel’s fourth overtime victory of the season, establishing a new school record.
The game was close throughout, with both teams tied at 39 after the first half. In the opening period, The Citadel made five three-pointers and Adebisi contributed 12 points. Wofford also hit six shots from beyond the arc in the first half, and neither team led by more than six points before halftime.
Wofford started the second half with a seven-point run, but The Citadel answered to even the score midway through. Both teams exchanged leads late in regulation. With seconds remaining, Adebisi converted two free throws to tie it at 83-83. Wofford missed its final shot as time expired.
In overtime, The Citadel outscored Wofford 10-7. Carter Kingsbury opened scoring for The Citadel with a layup, while Logan Applegate hit two three-pointers to help secure the lead. Adebisi made four free throws in the last minute to seal the win.
Adebisi finished shooting eight-for-ten from the field and eleven-for-thirteen from the free-throw line. He added four rebounds, three blocks and three steals. His point total was not only his career high but also marked the highest individual scoring performance for a Bulldog this season. His eleven made free throws were also a single-game high for any player on The Citadel this year.
Braxton Williams contributed eighteen points and six rebounds for The Citadel. Applegate scored fourteen points by making four three-pointers—his fourth game this season with at least that many threes—and Kingsbury recorded six assists.
The Bulldogs shot just over fifty-two percent from the field and fifty percent from beyond the arc—both among their best marks of the season—and forced thirteen turnovers by Wofford.
For Wofford, Nils Machowski led all scorers with thirty points; Kahmare Holmes had twenty-five; Cayden Vasko added thirteen points and eight rebounds.
Afterward, head coach Ed Conroy said: “Sola had a strong performance for us on both ends. We did a better job getting to the free-throw line in the second half and converting. Our interior play improved compared to the previous game, and we made the necessary plays to get it done in overtime.”
