Charleston Southern University’s women’s basketball team lost 56-44 to Gardner-Webb University on Wednesday night at Paul Porter Arena. Despite a strong individual performance from Tyonna Bailey, who recorded 24 points and 12 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season, the Buccaneers were unable to secure a win.

The game remained close in the first half, with Charleston Southern trailing by three points at halftime. Bailey contributed 12 points in the opening quarter and reached 17 before the break. However, Gardner-Webb gained control in the third quarter as Charleston Southern struggled offensively, making only two of fifteen field goal attempts during that period. The Runnin’ Bulldogs took advantage of turnovers, converting them into 27 points over the course of the game.

Gardner-Webb’s Aminah Gray led her team with 15 points, while Sara Menendez added 11. For Charleston Southern, Asha Sra scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Buccaneers finished with a shooting percentage of just over thirty percent from the field and committed twenty-two turnovers.

Gardner-Webb held a slight rebounding edge and received significant contributions from its bench players, who accounted for twenty-one points. Defensively, Charleston Southern recorded six steals and three blocks.

Charleston Southern will continue Big South Conference play with an away game against High Point University on February 14 at the Qubein Center.
