Charleston Southern University’s women’s basketball team lost to High Point University 64-48 in a road game on Saturday at the Qubein Center. The defeat leaves Charleston Southern with an 8-18 overall record and a 6-7 mark in Big South Conference play, while High Point improves to 22-4 overall and 11-2 in conference.

Tyonna Bailey led the Buccaneers with 12 points and 10 rebounds, marking her third consecutive double-double and fifth of the season. Caelan Ellis contributed 13 points for Charleston Southern. For High Point, Aaliyah Collins scored a game-high 29 points, while Macy Spencer added 24.

Charleston Southern stayed close early, but High Point used defensive pressure late in the first quarter and into the second to take control of the game. The Panthers closed the first quarter ahead 11-9 after holding CSU to just under 27 percent shooting. In the second quarter, High Point outscored Charleston Southern by seven points and built a nine-point halftime lead following a decisive 14-0 run.

The Buccaneers showed more energy after halftime, scoring their highest output of the night with 14 points in the fourth quarter. However, turnovers continued to be an issue for CSU; they committed 21 turnovers that led directly to as many points for High Point.

High Point finished shooting over 40 percent from the field compared to Charleston Southern’s nearly 28 percent. The Panthers also dominated inside with a significant edge in points in the paint (24-8) and fast-break points (16-3). High Point led for more than thirty-one minutes during the contest.

Charleston Southern will return home next Saturday for Alumni Day as they continue their Big South schedule against an undisclosed opponent.
