Charleston Southern University’s women’s basketball team lost 87-66 to High Point University on Wednesday at Buccaneer Fieldhouse. High Point, currently leading the Big South Conference, built an early lead in the first quarter and maintained control throughout the game.

Tyonna Bailey led Charleston Southern with 25 points, shooting 9-for-22 from the field and making three of eight attempts from beyond the arc. She contributed more than a third of her team’s total points. Bailey has now led her team in scoring nine times this season and surpassed 20 points for the seventh time.

Despite hitting 10 three-pointers and improving their offense in the final three quarters, Charleston Southern was unable to overcome High Point’s consistent scoring. The Panthers opened with a strong first quarter, limiting CSU to just nine points while building a 26-9 advantage.

Bailey helped spark some momentum in the second quarter as CSU scored 16 points, but High Point answered with 19 of its own, resulting in a 45-25 halftime lead for the visitors. In the third quarter, Charleston Southern had its best offensive stretch with 24 points and four made threes; however, High Point matched them with 26 points.

Other notable performances for Charleston Southern included Asha Sra, who finished just shy of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, and Caelan Ellis, who scored 10 points—her seventeenth game this season reaching double figures.

The Buccaneers shot 32 percent from the field and grabbed 41 rebounds—including 12 offensive boards—but were outpaced by High Point’s perimeter shooting. The Panthers connected on 46.3 percent of their shots overall and made 14 three-pointers.

Charleston Southern took a season-high 75 field goal attempts during the contest and committed only four turnovers—their lowest total since 2010.

The Buccaneers will continue conference play against USC Upstate on Friday in Spartanburg at 6:00 p.m., after moving up the game due to weather concerns.
