The Big South Conference announced on April 30 its Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions held from April 23 to April 26. The Charleston Southern Buccaneers’ women’s 4×400 meter relay team, consisting of Maya Clark, Grenisha Thomas, Maeva Tahou, and Caroline Aslerin, was selected as Women’s Track Athletes of the Week. Maeva Tahou also received recognition as Field Athlete of the Week.
These honors come after Clark, Thomas, Tahou, and Aslerin set a new school record in the 4×400 meter relay at the Charlotte Invitational with a time of 3:34.38. This performance is now ranked as the second-fastest in Big South history and is just under three-tenths of a second away from matching the conference’s all-time best.
Tahou achieved additional success at the Charlotte Invitational by winning two individual events. She won the 100 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 13.24 seconds—a new school record that stands as third-fastest in conference history. In addition to her track accomplishments, she claimed victory in the long jump with another school-record leap of 6.20 meters. This mark made her the first Buccaneer ever to surpass six meters in this event and placed her fourth all-time among league competitors.
Charleston Southern’s track and field program will now have two weekends off before preparing for their next major competition. The Big South Championships are scheduled to take place at High Point University from Monday, May 11 through Wednesday, May 13.
The recent achievements by both individuals and relay teams reflect ongoing progress within Charleston Southern’s women’s track and field program.
