Charleston Southern University’s men’s basketball team faced Radford University on Saturday, just two days after defeating Presbyterian College. The game took place in Radford, Virginia, where the Highlanders secured a 90–80 win over the Buccaneers, completing a season sweep.
The game started evenly, with Charleston Southern reaching an 11–10 lead five minutes into the contest. However, Radford soon took control and maintained their advantage for the rest of the first half. By halftime, Radford led 50–30 after closing out the half with a strong offensive run. Turnovers continued to be an issue for Charleston Southern; they committed 11 in the first half alone.
In the second half, Charleston Southern increased their scoring output but could not reduce the deficit to single digits. Radford maintained shooting accuracy above 46 percent in both halves and had ten players contribute points. This win marked Radford’s seventh victory in Big South Conference play.
Four players from Charleston Southern scored in double figures: A’lahn Sumler (16), Nate Brafford (14), Jacob Taylor (14), and Trent Coleman (12). Coleman reached double digits for the first time since joining Charleston Southern as a graduate student. Jacob Taylor shot 86 percent from the field and had only one turnover during his 22 minutes on court. Nate Brafford set a new personal best with his 14 points, making four of seven attempts from three-point range.
The Buccaneers will next host Gardner-Webb University on Tuesday, February 17th. The matchup was postponed twice due to severe weather and will now tip off at 6:00 p.m., broadcast on ESPN+.
“Taylor, the reigning Big South Freshman of the Week, shot an incredible 86% from the field (6-7) with only one turnover in 22 minutes of playing time.”
“Nate Brafford broke his career-high in scoring with 14 points – shooting 50% from the field and 4-of-7 from deep.”
