The City of Charleston has announced its 2025 holiday season schedule, which will feature a range of events throughout December. The campaign, called “A Holy City Holiday,” is focused on building upon existing community traditions while introducing new elements to attract larger crowds.

At a recent meeting, the City Council decided to contribute over $40,000 from travel and personnel funds to the 2025 holiday budget. This increase in funding is intended to support and enhance this year’s lineup of festivities.

Mayor William Cogswell commented on the expanded plans: “The holidays in Charleston are always something special, but this year we want to make them even brighter for our community. I’m grateful to City Council for joining together in the spirit of the season to help bring joy to residents and visitors alike.”

Applications are now open for groups wishing to participate in the annual Holiday Parade & Tree Lighting scheduled for Sunday, December 7. Schools, organizations, bands, businesses, and individuals are invited by the city to take part in these activities.

Key highlights of the 2025 holiday calendar include:

– Light the Lake at Colonial Lake on November 30
– The Holiday Parade & Tree Lighting at Marion Square on December 7
– The Holiday Parade of Boats at Charleston Harbor on December 13
– Chanukah in the Square at Marion Square on December 14
– A series of Holiday Farmers Markets at Marion Square throughout December

Community members interested in volunteering can contact Mindy Sturm regarding Light the Lake or Basil Punsalan about opportunities with the Holiday Parade.
