The College of Charleston baseball team lost to Campbell 16-1 in seven innings on April 24 at Patriots Point.

This result leaves the Cougars with a record of 20-21 overall and 10-9 in the Coastal Athletic Association, while Campbell improves to 27-14 and holds an 18-4 record in conference play. The loss marks another setback for Charleston as they try to improve their standing this season.

Campbell took control early by scoring two runs each in the second and third innings, building a quick lead. The Camels extended their advantage with four more runs in the fifth inning and two additional runs in the sixth. Charleston’s only run came when sophomore Alex LaCoste singled to center field during the bottom of the sixth inning, extending his hitting streak to eleven games.

Charleston now has a historical record of 16 wins and 22 losses against Campbell. Catcher Johnson threw out his twentieth base runner this season, becoming just the third Cougar catcher ever to reach that mark within a single campaign. LaCoste’s performance continues a strong stretch, as he has recorded hits in twenty-six of his last twenty-seven games.

The series between Charleston and Campbell will continue Saturday with another game scheduled for 2 p.m. at Patriots Point.
