College of Charleston’s baseball team will travel to face No. 6 Coastal Carolina in its first midweek game of the season on Tuesday, February 17. The matchup is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Springs Brooks Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Charleston began its season with an 8-3 win over Rutgers, improving its Opening Day record to 20-1 since 2006 and remaining undefeated under head coach Chad Holbrook on Opening Day, now at 9-0. Redshirt senior Alex Lyon pitched 4.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing four hits and no walks. With this appearance, Lyon moved into third place for all-time appearances in school history with 79.

Despite the strong start, Charleston lost the series to Rutgers after dropping both games of Saturday’s doubleheader and falling again on Sunday. Junior Brent Gibbs contributed defensively with 19 assists at second base during the weekend and also recorded six hits while scoring three runs.

Historically, College of Charleston holds a narrow lead in its series against Coastal Carolina, with a record of 28-27. In the previous season, Charleston was one of only four teams—including Wake Forest, Troy, and eventual College World Series Champion LSU—to defeat Coastal Carolina twice. Last February in Conway, Charleston won 15-5 in eight innings before securing another victory against then-No.21 ranked Coastal at Patriots Point on April 22.

After facing Coastal Carolina, Charleston will return home for a series against South Alabama from February 20 to February 22 and a single game against Air Force on February 23 at Patriots Point. Friday’s opener versus South Alabama will begin at 4 p.m., with all home games available live on FloCollege.

Single-game tickets can be purchased through cofcsports./tickets or by calling (843) 953-2632.

“Charleston improved to 20-1 on Opening Day since 2006 and 9-0 under head coach Chad Holbrook with an 8-3 victory over Rutgers.”

“Redshirt senior Alex Lyon earned the win, tossing 4.2 scoreless frames out of the bullpen. Lyon yielded just four hits without allowing a free pass en route to taking over sole possession of third on the all-time appearances list in school history with 79.”

“Junior Brent Gibbs was a machine at second base for Charleston, collecting 19 assists during the weekend slate.”

“Gibbs also collected six knocks while crossing the plate three times against Rutgers.”

“CofC is 28-27 against Coastal Carolina in the all-time series and were one of just four teams to hand the Chanticleers multiple losses in 2025. Only Charleston, Wake Forest, Troy and College World Series Champion LSU defeated Coastal twice.”

“The Cougars beat the Chants 15-5 in eight innings in Conway last Feb. before taking a 4-2 win against the then-21 ranked Coastal squad at Patriots Point April 22.”
