Bronwyn Conroy and Mackenzie Mathis of the Charleston Cougars softball team have received weekly honors from the Coastal Athletic Conference. Conroy was named Co-Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, while Mathis earned her first Pitcher of the Week recognition this season.
Conroy delivered a strong performance at the Lowcountry Classic, recording 11 hits in 17 at-bats with a .647 batting average and eight runs scored. She also posted a .684 on-base percentage, .706 slugging percentage, and a 1.390 OPS. The freshman outfielder stole seven bases over five games, bringing her NCAA-leading total to 14 stolen bases this season.
Her weekend included a three-hit game against Western Carolina and back-to-back multi-run games with two stolen bases each against UMass and UConn. Conroy capped off her performance by going four-for-four with a double, three runs scored, and two more stolen bases in another matchup against Western Carolina.
Mathis pitched two complete games at the tournament, achieving a 2-0 record with a 1.31 ERA and striking out 14 batters over 16 innings. Against Western Carolina, she struck out six hitters across seven innings to secure a narrow win for Charleston. In her next start versus UConn—the reigning BIG EAST Tournament champions—Mathis allowed just one run on six hits without issuing any walks and struck out six batters to help defeat the Huskies 2-1. She ended that game by striking out Ava Calciano looking with the tying run on second base.
In Charleston’s final game of the weekend against Penn, Mathis threw two perfect innings and recorded two strikeouts.
The Cougars will begin their first road trip of the season at the I-75 Tournament hosted by Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. Their opening game is scheduled for Thursday, February 19 at 1 p.m., when they face Georgia Tech.
