College of Charleston’s baseball team lost to South Alabama 3-1 on Saturday at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
South Alabama’s Blake Guerin was responsible for all three runs, driving in one with a single in the second inning and adding a two-run single in the fourth. Charleston responded in the bottom of the fourth when senior Payton Frehner hit a ball into right field, allowing junior Braeden Smith to score.
Redshirt junior Carson Bryant pitched 3.1 innings for Charleston during the loss. Redshirt senior Alex Lyon matched his season-high by delivering 4.2 scoreless innings, and graduate Kurt Rogers pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
Charleston now holds a 5-3 record all-time against South Alabama. The game marked Lyon’s 80th career appearance with the Cougars and he has thrown 4.2 scoreless innings over his first two outings this season. Frehner has recorded an RBI in five out of six games so far and has driven in runs during three consecutive contests.
The series will conclude on Sunday, February 22, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Patriots Point.
