The College of Charleston men’s basketball team is set to play against the Hofstra Pride on Thursday, January 29, in Hempstead, New York. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Charleston currently leads the all-time series with Hofstra by a narrow margin of 11-10 and has won the last three meetings between the teams. This matchup marks the first of two games scheduled between Charleston and Hofstra this season.

The Cougars have an overall record of 13-8 and are 6-2 in conference play. They are coming off an 80-70 victory over Elon on January 24, which was their largest win margin in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) game this season. Head Coach Chris Mack’s team maintained control throughout that contest, leading for more than 39 minutes.

Redshirt junior Christian Reeves was named CAA Player of the Week after his performances against Campbell and Elon. “The Charlotte native averaged a double-double with 25.0 ppg and 13.5 rpg. The Cougars’ big man went nearly perfect from the floor with an 87.0% shooting clip from the field (20-23 FG). He also logged 10 of his 27 rebounds on the offensive glass. He was the only player in the nation during last week’s slate to rank in the top eight in field goal percentage, rebounds, and rebounds per game,” according to the program.

Junior Colby Duggan reached a milestone by surpassing 700 career points after scoring 17 points against Elon. Four Cougars currently average double-digit points per game: Jlynn Counter leads with 15.8, followed by Connor Hickman at 12.7, Duggan at 12.4, and Martin Kalu at 10.5.

Jlynn Counter had a streak of scoring in double figures for eleven consecutive games, ending that run against Elon. He became the first Cougar since Grant Riller in 2019 to record ten or more straight games with double-digit points.

Nationally, Charleston ranks among the top teams for getting to the free throw line—30th in free throw attempts per game (25.5) and 27th in free throws made per game (18.8). The team is also ranked 44th nationally for defensive rebounds per game (27.24).

On an individual level, Chol Machot is ninth in total blocks (52) and thirteenth in blocks per game (2.48) entering Thursday’s matchup.

Hofstra enters with a matching overall record of 13-8 but stands at an even split of four wins and four losses within CAA play after losing its last four conference games following four straight victories to open league competition.

Offensively, Cruz Davis leads Hofstra with an average of 22 points per game while Preston Edmead contributes 15.4 points per contest; Victory Onuetu averages a team-high of 8.2 rebounds per game for Hofstra. Davis is currently first in league scoring while Edmead ranks ninth; as a team, Hofstra leads their conference both in three-point percentage (.379) and total three-pointers made this season (203).
