The Charleston Cougars won their final home softball game of the season against the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a score of 5-4 on April 26 at Patriots Point. Austy Miller delivered a walk-off single to clinch the victory for Charleston.
This win brings the Cougars’ overall record to 25-26 and their Colonial Athletic Association record to 13-8. The result marks Charleston’s ninth walk-off win and twentieth home victory this season, underscoring their strong performance at home games.
UNCW started strong by scoring two runs in the first inning, but Charleston responded quickly when Hailey Seymour hit a three-run double after loading the bases. The Seahawks tied the game in the fourth inning due to a throwing error by Charleston. In later innings, Mackenzie Mathis took over pitching duties for Charleston, recording three strikeouts and improving her season record to 13-7.
The decisive seventh inning saw Sierra Paradis lead off with a base hit for Charleston. Julia Sitterding reached first on a fielder’s choice, followed by Bronwyn Conroy doubling to put runners on second and third. Leela Langston’s sacrifice fly brought in the tying run before Miller’s single secured Conroy as the winning run.
Miller extended her hitting streak to six games during this match, accumulating nine hits over that period. According to team statistics through April 26, Charleston remains undefeated on Sundays when wearing black uniforms.
Looking ahead, Charleston will conclude its regular season with an away series against Towson beginning Thursday, April 30.
