Charleston’s softball team secured a close 11-10 win over Georgia State on Saturday at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The victory brings Charleston’s season record to 8-10 and their home record to 8-5.
Freshman Bronwyn Conroy played a key role, going 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI. Julia Sitterding also contributed by crossing home plate three times.
Jules Raymond started as pitcher for Charleston and kept Georgia State scoreless through two innings. Early in the game, Conroy and Austy Miller scored in the first inning, giving Charleston a 2-0 lead. The offense added four more runs in the second inning, highlighted by Sitterding’s single that brought Abby Driscoll home, followed by Savannah Scott scoring on an error and Sitterding reaching home after a wild pitch. Cadence Alberty finished off the frame with a single that allowed Conroy to score, putting Charleston ahead 6-0.
Georgia State answered with three runs in the third inning. Conroy responded with her second hit of the day to extend Charleston’s lead to 7-3. In the fifth inning, Conroy hit a two-run triple that pushed the advantage to 10-4.
The Panthers mounted a comeback attempt late in the game, scoring five runs in the sixth and another run in the seventh inning. However, Raymond returned to pitch at the end of the contest and held off Georgia State to secure her third win of the season.
Erin McDaid achieved her first career strikeout during her two innings pitched on Saturday. Conroy and Sitterding each recorded three runs—the highest for either team during this matchup—while Conroy also had one stolen base. After this game, Conroy’s batting average stands at .452 and she now has nine multi-hit games this season.
Charleston will host Georgia State again on Sunday for their final game of this weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for noon. Sunday’s event will mark the start of Signature Sundays where players are available for post-game autographs.
