The College of Charleston men’s golf team announced on April 24 that it will compete in the 2026 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Golf Championship from April 26 to April 28 at Dataw Island Golf Club in St. Helena Island, South Carolina.
The event is significant as the Cougars aim to secure their eighth CAA title, highlighting the program’s ongoing success and its strong performance during the current season. The team enters the championship as the highest-ranked squad in the field, holding a No. 47 spot in the NCAA Clippd rankings.
Last year, Charleston finished fourth at the CAA Men’s Golf Championship. Tim Bertenbreiter led with a tie for fourth place (+2), earning a position on the All-Tournament team after recording three birdies in his final round and totaling 34 pars—third most among all golfers. Kieron van Wyk also made the All-Tournament team with a tie for seventh (+4), while Nevill Ruiter finished tied for eleventh (+6), contributing four birdies and an eagle.
This season under head coach Mitch Krywulycz, Charleston has set a new program record by winning three regular-season tournaments: Wexford Intercollegiate, Hootie at Bulls Bay, and Giles Spratley Collegiate. The Hootie at Bulls Bay victory was achieved with a record-breaking -35 scorecard and included setting new program records for lowest round (-23) and lowest two-round total (-41). Nevill Ruiter was named CAA Golfer of the Week after winning individually at Giles-Sprately Collegiate on April 7; Miles Eubanks also secured an individual title this season.
Charleston will compete against Monmouth, Towson, UNCW, North Carolina A&T, Campbell, Elon, William & Mary, Drexel, and Hofstra during this year’s championship. Tournament play begins Sunday morning with Charleston teeing off alongside UNCW and Elon.
Looking ahead to tournament days scheduled through Tuesday—each featuring one round over Dataw Island’s par-72 course—the Cougars’ lineup includes Miles Eubanks, Nevill Ruiter, Loran Appel (runner-up at Bulls Bay), Jules Lauer, and Johan Bredenkamp.
