The College of Charleston men’s golf team was selected on May 17 to compete in the NCAA Athens Regional, which will take place from May 18 to May 20 at the University of Georgia Golf Club.
This marks the Cougars’ third consecutive regional appearance and their second straight at-large selection for the NCAA Regionals. The program has now made a total of eleven regional appearances in its history. The field includes teams such as Auburn, Illinois, Vanderbilt, BYU, Georgia, Louisville, Kansas, Northwestern, Rice, Southern Miss, Harvard, and Howard.
Charleston enters the tournament as the ninth seed after finishing third at the 2026 Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Golf Championship with a score of -17. The team finished four strokes behind Elon and trailed UNCW by twenty-one shots for first place. After starting in fifth place following round one, Charleston rallied to secure a top-three finish.
Loran Appel led Charleston with a tie for fourth at six under par across all three rounds and earned All-Tournament honors. Nevill Ruiter also placed in the top ten after posting a bogey-free final round that was four under par. Both Miles Eubanks and Appel were named to the All-CAA First Team while Ruiter earned Second Team recognition.
Eubanks concluded the regular season ranked first among CAA players in NCAA Clipp’d rankings at number 117 nationally with an average score of 70.5 strokes per round. He claimed his first collegiate individual title earlier this year and received CAA Golfer of the Week honors for his performance. Appel also achieved multiple top-five finishes during the season including runner-up at another event; this is his second postseason honor.
The team’s lineup for Athens includes Eubanks, Ruiter, Appel, Johan Bredenkamp, and Jules Lauer.
