The College of Charleston men’s basketball team secured a win over Campbell, finishing 87-83 in a conference matchup at TD Arena on Thursday night. The victory brings Charleston’s record to 12-8 overall and 5-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play.

Campbell started the game with an early lead, but Charleston responded with a run highlighted by three consecutive baskets from Connor Hickman, giving them their first advantage at 18-17. Campbell later tied the score before going on a 9-0 run. Charleston entered halftime trailing by one point, with Hickman leading the Cougars with 14 points in the first half.

After halftime, neither team managed more than a two-point lead until Charleston went on a decisive 14-0 run. This stretch included a three-pointer from Chris Davis Jr. and another dunk from Christian Reeves, pushing Charleston ahead by ten points.

Campbell remained close as both teams shot efficiently late in the game. Jlynn Counter reached his 1,500th career point with a three-pointer that energized the home crowd. Despite Campbell narrowing the gap to two points with just over five seconds remaining, Counter was fouled and made both free throws to secure the win for Charleston.

Counter led all scorers for Charleston with 23 points—20 of which came in the second half—and matched his career high with nine assists while also collecting seven rebounds. Reeves contributed a career-high 21 points and nine rebounds, shooting 9-for-11 from the field. Hickman finished with 18 points.

Charleston achieved season highs by shooting 56 percent from the field and scoring 50 points in the paint. The Cougars also outrebounded Campbell and had significantly more free throw attempts.

The contest saw five ties and seven lead changes. Head coach Chris Mack’s team remains undefeated this season in games decided by five points or fewer.

Charleston will next face Elon at TD Arena on Saturday, January 24 at noon. The Cougars previously defeated Elon earlier this season.
