The College of Charleston men’s basketball team secured its seventh consecutive win, defeating Hampton 74-70 on Saturday night at TD Arena. With this result, the Cougars remain unbeaten in conference play.

Charleston took an early lead with three-point shots from Connor Hickman and Colby Duggan. The team maintained momentum by making five out of seven field goals while keeping Hampton scoreless for more than two minutes, leading 17-9 with 11 minutes left in the first half.

Hampton narrowed the gap late in the first half, holding Charleston without a basket for nearly three minutes. Both teams struggled offensively during this stretch, combining for one successful shot out of twelve attempts. Despite this, Charleston led 28-26 at halftime. Jlynn Counter and Duggan each scored eight points before the break, while Chol Machot recorded five blocks in the opening period.

Duggan continued his strong performance after halftime, scoring eight points within three minutes and helping Charleston build its largest lead at 45-33. Hampton responded by reducing the deficit to one point twice and eventually tying the game at 59 with four minutes remaining.

A key moment came when Christian Reeves converted a tip-in dunk and drew a foul, giving Charleston a lift. In the final moments, Hickman, Machot, Duggan, and Counter made crucial free throws to preserve the lead and secure the victory.

Duggan finished with a team-high 22 points—his best performance in a Charleston uniform—shooting seven-for-thirteen from the field and making all seven free throws. Counter contributed 19 points and seven assists. Machot led with seven rebounds and six blocks, bringing his season total to 48 blocks.

Charleston shot 51 percent from the field compared to Hampton’s 40 percent. The Cougars have not lost this season when leading at halftime and are undefeated (4-0) in games decided by five or fewer points.

Charleston improves to an overall record of 11-6 and is now 4-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The team will travel next to face Towson on Thursday, January 15, with tipoff scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
