The College of Charleston men’s basketball team will conclude its two-game road trip with a matchup against Stony Brook on Saturday, January 17. The game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Long Island.

Charleston holds an 8-0 record all-time against the Seawolves, dating back to 1998. The teams last met in the 2024 CAA Championship game, where the Cougars secured the title with an 82-79 overtime win. This weekend’s contest will be their only regular season meeting this year.

The Cougars are coming off a 61-52 loss at Towson on Thursday night in Baltimore. Despite outscoring Towson 35-27 in the second half, Charleston could not overcome a significant first-half deficit. Connor Hickman led all scorers with 20 points, matching his best performance as a Cougar. Jlynn Counter, who has twice been named CAA Player of the Week, added seven points, six assists, and seven rebounds. Counter is currently third in the CAA in total assists (82), assists per game (4.8), and fourth in field goal percentage (48.3).

Thursday’s defeat ended Charleston’s seven-game winning streak, which was the longest during Chris Mack’s tenure as head coach.

Chol Machot has recorded at least one block in each of his last 13 games and tallied three blocks against Towson, bringing his season total to 51—the ninth highest single-season mark in program history. He ranks third nationally in total blocks and fifth in blocks per game (2.83).

Charleston is among the national leaders in free throw attempts per game (42nd) and free throw makes per game (52nd). Four players are averaging double figures: Counter leads with 15.5 points per game; Hickman follows with 12.4; Colby Duggan averages 12.2; and Martin Kalu contributes 11.2 points per game—all four have posted at least one game scoring over twenty points this season.

Stony Brook enters Saturday’s contest with a record of 10-9 overall and a conference mark of 2-4 after defeating Hofstra—previously unbeaten in league play—76-71 on Thursday night. Erik Pratt leads Stony Brook with an average of 18.6 points per game and holds the seventh-best field goal percentage (.415) in the conference, while Richard Goods tops their rebounding efforts at 6.3 boards per contest. The Seawolves also rank third in the CAA for three-pointers made this season with a total of 170.

The upcoming contest will be broadcast live on FloCollege with Jonny Wincott and Rob Pavelli providing commentary. Fans can also listen to Everett German call the action on the Varsity App.
