The College of Charleston men’s basketball team is set to play the Northeastern Huskies on Saturday in Boston. This will be their only meeting this season and the first time Charleston will compete at the Cabot Center instead of Matthews Arena.
Charleston holds a 14-11 record all-time against Northeastern and has won the last seven matchups. Both teams are among the top three in scoring offense during Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play, with Northeastern averaging 80.6 points per game and Charleston close behind at 78.9 points per game.
In their previous game, Charleston secured a 66-64 win over Hofstra on Thursday night in Long Island. The Cougars overcame a halftime deficit with a strong second-half run. Head coach Chris Mack commented on his team’s performance: “With the win, Chris Mack’s team is 6-0 this season in games decided by 5 points or less.” Overall, Charleston led for just over seven minutes against Hofstra.
Jlynn Counter led the team with 22 points, ten rebounds, and five assists, earning his second career double-double. Counter has scored more than 20 points eight times this season and ranks sixth in CAA league scoring.
Christian Reeves, named CAA Player of the Week, recorded his second consecutive double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. He received player of the week honors after averaging a double-double in wins over Campbell and Elon last week and is currently fifth in CAA play for rebounds per game.
Saturday’s contest also marks a homecoming for junior Colby Duggan, who averages 11.2 points per game and stands second in free throw percentage within the conference.
Charleston remains one of the top teams nationally for getting to the free throw line, ranking 33rd in attempts per game (25.4) and 31st in makes per game (18.5).
Chol Machot ranks fourth nationally in total blocks (57) and eighth in blocks per game (2.59). Freshman Chadlyn Traylor has contributed off the bench with an efficient assist-to-turnover ratio through nine conference games.
