The College of Charleston men’s basketball team is set to play its final regular season game against UNCW on Sunday, March 1. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
Charleston has secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming 2026 Air Force Reserve CAA Men’s Basketball Championship. If the Cougars win against UNCW, they remain in contention for Co-Regular Season Champions with their opponent.
Historically, Charleston holds an 18-24 record against the Seahawks. Their last encounter was on February 9 at TD Arena, where UNCW won 76-64. In that game, Jlynn Counter led Charleston with 20 points, and Christian Reeves recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cougars recently achieved their 20th win of the season after defeating Hampton 85-71 in Virginia. This marks the fourth consecutive season that Charleston has reached at least 20 wins. Martin Kalu scored a game-high 21 points, just one point shy of his career best. Reeves notched his eighth career double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds, while Connor Hickman contributed 16 points and shot 60% from the field.
Freshman Chadlyn Traylor had a career-high seven assists during the Hampton game and has committed only six turnovers during conference play while recording 31 assists.
Since joining the starting lineup on February 12, Chris Davis Jr. has become Charleston’s second leading scorer with an average of 11.6 points per game and second leading rebounder with an average of 5.8 rebounds per game. He achieved his first career double-double at North Carolina A&T and set a personal scoring high of 16 points against Monmouth.
Redshirt sophomore Chol Machot currently ranks fourth nationally in total blocks (76) and eighth in blocks per game (2.53). If he records three more blocks against UNCW, he will move to third place all-time for single-season blocks in program history. Teammate Reeves is next closest in shot blocking within the league (39) and leads in field goal percentage through conference play (68%).
Graduate point guard Jlynn Counter is notable as the only player in the CAA to rank among the top ten during conference play for scoring, assists, and steals per game. He leads the league with a total of 162 assists and averages 5.6 assists per game.
Charleston is also recognized as one of the nation’s top rebounding teams, ranking thirty-first nationally by averaging over twenty-seven defensive rebounds per game.
In their previous matchup this season, UNCW took an early lead before Charleston narrowed the gap midway through the first half. The teams exchanged scores until late runs by UNCW gave them a halftime advantage that they maintained throughout most of the second half. Although Charleston reduced their deficit several times, they were unable to complete a comeback as UNCW finished with narrow advantages both in shooting percentage (41% to Charleston’s 40%) and rebounding (39-37). Notably, Charleston’s bench outscored UNCW’s reserves by fifteen points.
