The College of Charleston men’s basketball team is set to play North Carolina A&T in Greensboro on Thursday, February 19, marking the second matchup between the two teams this season. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Charleston holds a 6-1 record all-time against North Carolina A&T, with their only loss occurring in 1991. In their previous meeting this season at TD Arena, Charleston secured a 78-62 victory by limiting the Aggies to under 30% shooting from the field in the second half. Christian Reeves and Jlynn Counter each scored 16 points for Charleston. Reeves also collected six rebounds and made seven of nine shots from the field, while Counter contributed six assists to his league-leading total. This win marked Charleston’s largest margin of victory in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play so far this season.

The Cougars are coming off a recent 62-57 win at Campbell, which was their eighth victory this season decided by five points or fewer. Reeves and Chol Machot combined for a strong performance, making 16 of their 20 shots from the field. The Cougars held Campbell to just 57 points—the lowest allowed by Charleston in league play this year.

Charleston has remained undefeated in games where they have led at halftime during this season. The team leads the CAA and ranks 33rd nationally in defensive rebounds per game, averaging 27.3 defensive boards, with Reeves contributing an average of 5.12 per game.

Chol Machot currently ranks second nationally in total blocks with 71 and sixth in blocks per game at an average of 2.63. If Machot records four more blocks against North Carolina A&T, he will move into fourth place for most blocks in a single season in school history.

Graduate student point guard Jlynn Counter recently surpassed the milestone of 500 career rebounds during the win over Campbell. Counter is ranked 34th nationally in total assists with 144 and is averaging 5.5 assists per game—36th best nationwide—which puts him at fifteenth for most assists in a single season at Charleston.

Three starters for Charleston are averaging double-digit points per game: Counter leads with an average of 16 points, followed by Reeves with 10.6 and Colby Duggan with 10.2.

In their last contest against North Carolina A&T, after the Aggies narrowed the score to one point late in the first half, Charleston pulled away early in the second half and maintained control for their largest conference win of the year. The Cougars shot better than their opponents—53% compared to North Carolina A&T’s 37%. Despite being outrebounded (35-31), Charleston scored significantly inside with 44 points in the paint and added another 23 points off turnovers forced from North Carolina A&T.
