The College of Charleston men’s basketball team will face Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina, on Sunday, February 15. The game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
Charleston holds a strong record against Campbell, with an 18-4 all-time advantage and a perfect 16-0 mark since both teams entered Division I. The last time the Camels defeated the Cougars was in 1991.
The Cougars are coming off a close 66-62 loss to Hofstra at home. In that game, Colby Duggan and Chris Davis Jr. each scored 14 points for Charleston, with Davis Jr. also contributing five rebounds during his first career start at TD Arena.
Charleston has shown strength in several statistical categories this season. The team ranks among the top programs nationally in getting to the free throw line and defensive rebounding, sitting at 35th in free throw attempts per game (18.2) and 29th in defensive rebounds per game (27.42).
Graduate guard Counter leads the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in total assists (136) and assists per game (5.4). His current assist total ties him for 17th place in single-season program history.
Redshirt sophomore Chol Machot has recorded 65 blocks so far this season, which places him fifth nationally in that category. If he records two more blocks against Campbell, he will move into fifth place all-time for blocks in a single season at Charleston.
Three Cougars are averaging double-digit points per game: Counter leads with 16.4 points, followed by Reeves with 10.3 and Duggan with 10.2 points per game.
Rookies Chris Davis Jr. and Chadlyn Traylor have taken on larger roles recently; together they logged a combined 51 minutes and scored 25 points during the loss to Hofstra.
In their previous matchup earlier this season, Campbell took an early lead before Charleston responded with a strong run led by Connor Hickman’s scoring efforts. After trailing by one point at halftime, Charleston surged ahead with a key second-half run highlighted by plays from Davis Jr., Reeves, and Counter—who reached his milestone of scoring his 1,500th career point during the contest. Although Campbell narrowed the gap late in the game, Counter secured victory for Charleston by making two free throws after being fouled with just over five seconds remaining.
Sunday’s broadcast will feature Dave Ryan and John Giannini as commentators on CBS Sports Network. Fans can also listen to Everett German’s radio call via the Varsity App or follow updates on X (@CofCBasketball) and Instagram (@CofCBasketball).
