Charleston men’s tennis earns shutout win over Coppin State

The College of Charleston men’s tennis team secured a 7-0 victory over Coppin State on Friday evening in Baltimore. The Cougars improved their season record to 2-3, while Coppin State dropped to 0-3.

Charleston started strong by winning all three doubles matches. Leon Harder and Juan Diego Rojas Mora claimed a 6-1 win at the top doubles spot. Devin Ruhotina and Jake Smith earned a 6-2 result at No. 3 doubles, and Dani Farran with Jakub Solarski won 6-3 on court two.

In singles play, Leon Harder defeated Ulugb Abdurakhmonov with a score of 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 position. Jakub Solarski added another point for Charleston with a straight-set win (6-2, 6-1) over Rishi Jalota at No. 2 singles. Dani Farran clinched the match for the Cougars by beating Liam Murtaugh, 6-1, 7-6 (3), on court four.

Devin Ruhotina posted a 6-2, 6-2 win in the sixth singles slot against Aidan Thomas-Coger. Juan Diego Rojas Mora won his match on court five by defeating Dentry Mortimer, 6-4, 6-2. Jake Smith completed the sweep for Charleston after coming from behind to beat Andre Dogbefu, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The Cougars will next compete against Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg on Sunday, March 1, with first serve scheduled for 3 p.m. EST.
