Mel Carter and Jacob Gamble have joined the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce as new Business Advocacy Managers. Their appointments are expected to enhance the Chamber’s efforts to engage with local governments, monitor policy issues, and advocate for business interests throughout the region.
Carter will oversee advocacy in Berkeley and Dorchester counties and coordinate on state-level issues. She previously worked as Director of Policy & Public Affairs at Georgia Life Sciences, where she developed public policy strategies and represented a membership-based organization in dealings with government leaders. Now based in Mount Pleasant, Carter aims to connect the business community with decision-makers to advance effective advocacy.
Gamble will focus on Charleston County and its municipalities. A native of Summerville who recently returned from Washington, D.C., where he served as Director of Press Advance at the White House, Gamble brings experience from government, campaigns, and the private sector. His role includes tracking legislation, supporting advocacy initiatives, and ensuring that business perspectives are considered in local policy discussions.
Both managers share a mission to support the Chamber’s policy priorities while building relationships with elected officials, government partners, and members. They will work collaboratively but concentrate on different parts of the region to address unique challenges facing each community.
“Bringing Mel and Jacob onto our team significantly expands our ability to partner with local governments and stay closely connected to the issues impacting our business community,” said Scott Barhight, Senior Vice President of Business Advocacy. “This investment reflects the Chamber’s commitment to working collaboratively with elected officials and public sector partners across the region to help foster a thriving business environment in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties.”
The addition of Carter and Gamble is intended to strengthen the Business Advocacy team’s capacity for local engagement and responsiveness.
