More than 300 business leaders from the Charleston region gathered for Vision 2026, an event organized by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. The annual meeting focused on strategies to keep the region competitive and prepared for long-term growth.
Chamber President and CEO Kevin Sheilley addressed attendees, emphasizing the importance of preparation and perspective. “Over the past year, the Chamber has focused on strengthening its foundation, building capacity and clarifying priorities. With that groundwork in place, the organization is positioned to take meaningful steps forward,” Sheilley said.
He outlined his vision for both the community and the Chamber’s future, noting that ongoing progress depends on collaboration among business leaders. “Continued progress will require business leaders to stay engaged and aligned. We move further when we move together,” he stated.
A key focus of the morning was on expanding the Chamber’s Business Advocacy team. With increased resources and new engagement tools, this team aims to amplify the Chamber’s influence at local and state levels. Sheilley discussed priority advocacy issues, highlighting “the importance of ensuring the business community has a strong, coordinated voice on policies that shape growth, infrastructure and economic competitiveness.” He added that advocating for regional businesses remains central to the Chamber’s mission.
The Workforce and Education team also provided updates during Vision 2026. Progress continues on developing an Education and Workforce Blueprint designed to better align employers with educators around talent needs. An upcoming Regional Workforce Coalition will facilitate more collaboration among leaders addressing workforce challenges.
Additionally, attendees learned about developments in the maritime industry as an example of how workforce strategy intersects with industry growth.
Business creation was another area highlighted for increased attention in 2026. Campbell Wiltshire was introduced as Vice President of Business Creation. Upcoming initiatives include an Entrepreneur Ecosystem Roadmap and implementation of the Kauffman FastTrac program aimed at supporting founders with practical tools.
Sheilley described these efforts as part of a more defined pillar within the Chamber’s overall strategy: supporting business formation and scaling up small businesses.
Each year, Vision brings together members, community leaders, businesses, and public officials committed to advancing a strong regional economy. The energy at this year’s event reflected a shared commitment to these goals.
