For more than 250 years, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce has worked to advance the interests of businesses in the region through advocacy efforts. The Chamber is now using VoterVoice, a platform designed to connect business leaders directly with elected officials who influence the local business climate.
According to the Chamber, “Elected officials respond when they hear directly from their constituents. When business leaders explain how policy affects jobs, investment and growth, it informs decisions and influences outcomes.”
VoterVoice notifies users via email and text message when important legislation or ballot initiatives arise that could impact the business community. Each alert includes a link to an action page explaining the issue and outlining the Chamber’s position.
The process for participating is straightforward. On each action page, users complete a short contact form with their name and address. The platform then identifies which elected officials represent them based on both home and workplace location. A prewritten message is provided, but users are encouraged to personalize it. According to the Chamber, “Lawmakers consistently tell us that thoughtful, firsthand perspectives from employers carry the greatest influence.”
Once submitted, messages are delivered automatically to relevant officials. The Chamber emphasizes that participation only takes a few minutes but can have lasting effects on policy decisions.
The organization notes that outreach will be selective: “You will not receive constant alerts. You will hear from us when your voice can make a meaningful difference.” Text alerts will come from 843.891.7904, and recipients are encouraged to save this number.
Business leaders interested in participating can sign up by completing a contact form and selecting issues and counties most relevant to them.
