The City of Charleston has announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2026 State Accommodations Tax (SAT) and Community Assistance Funding grant programs. These grants are available to non-profit organizations and public agencies aiming to support programs benefiting Charleston residents.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, August 29, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. Late submissions will not be considered.

The State Accommodations Tax grants are financed through a statewide tax on accommodations. According to legal requirements, these funds must be allocated for specific tourism-related purposes such as promoting arts and cultural events, tourism marketing, and operating facilities for cultural and civic activities. The City Council awards these grants annually based on recommendations from the Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee in line with state law.

The Community Assistance Funding program is designed to support nonprofit organizations offering direct community services in various fields including arts and culture, youth and community development, education, health and human services, environmental programming, and public safety initiatives. To qualify for this funding, applicants must either operate within the City of Charleston or demonstrate that their programs directly serve its residents.
