Charleston police arrest suspect after James Island shooting

Officers from the Charleston Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that took place on December 21, 2025, on James Island. The incident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. in the front yard of a residence located on Seacroft Road near Woodview Lane.

Upon arrival, officers found an adult victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Detectives determined that the suspect and the victim are related. According to investigators, the shooting happened during an argument outside the home.

Following their investigation, detectives charged Harold Alvin Champainge with attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime. Champainge was arrested on December 22, 2025, and is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

The Charleston Police Department stated: “This investigation is ongoing.
