Charleston Police arrest suspect in burglary, assault, and kidnapping case

Charleston Police have arrested Walter Clayton Pate III, a 29-year-old from North Charleston, in connection with an incident involving burglary, assault and battery, and kidnapping. According to the police, Pate forcibly entered a woman’s home on December 10, 2025. The victim discovered Pate inside her residence early in the morning and found him wearing only his underwear. When she confronted him, Pate physically assaulted her. The victim was able to fight back and forced him out of the home before he fled.

Detectives collaborated with the U.S. Marshals Task Force to locate and arrest Pate later that evening. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are encouraging anyone with information about the case to contact the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 or submit anonymous tips online at www.charleston-sc.gov/tips.
