Charleston Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that took place on Clements Ferry Road earlier this month. Wonique Broughton, 35, of Charleston, was taken into custody on January 28, 2026.

The incident occurred on January 14 at around 7:30 a.m., when police and emergency responders were called to the scene of a vehicle collision involving a car and a power pole about half a mile from Cainhoy Road. Officers found an adult male deceased inside the vehicle. Investigators determined that the crash happened after a shooting inside the car.

According to detectives, “the victim was driving when the suspect removed a firearm from her bag and shot him. After the shooting, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a power pole. The suspect was transported to a local hospital.”

Following their investigation, authorities charged Broughton with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. She is currently being held at the Berkeley County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

The Berkeley County Coroner identified the victim as Arthur Broughton Jr., who was married to Wonique Broughton at the time of his death.
