The Charleston Police Department has arrested a 17-year-old in connection with the homicide that took place on Ashley Avenue on December 10, 2025. Officers responded to the scene at around 6:45 p.m., where they found a 17-year-old victim deceased. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Luis Garcia-Galvez.

Investigators determined that the victim had driven to meet the suspect at the location. According to police, the suspect approached the vehicle, attempted an armed robbery, and then shot and killed Garcia-Galvez.

The arrested individual faces charges of murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. The arrest was made on December 17 by Charleston Police Department officers with support from the U.S. Marshals Service and SLED. The suspect is currently being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Chief Chito Walker stated, “My heart is with this family as they face this loss during a season that is about being together. This did not have to happen. When young people carry guns, the consequences are immediate and permanent, and one decision can change lives in seconds. This kind of loss should never be part of growing up. I hope holding those responsible accountable brings some measure of justice. I am grateful to the detectives who continue to tirelessly work around the clock.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information related to this incident to contact the Charleston Police Department or submit tips anonymously through their official website at www.charleston-sc.gov/tips.
