Charleston Police Department detectives executed two search warrants this week at residences on Congress Street near Senate Street and Simons Street near King Street. The searches were part of a multi-week investigation by the Special Investigations Unit into illegal drug activity in the area.

Officers recovered illegal drugs and a firearm during the operation. As a result, Jermaine Sammy Milligan, 42, of Charleston, faces charges including trafficking cocaine base (10–28 grams) and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Deangelo Montez Simmons, 38, also of Charleston, is charged with trafficking cocaine (over 400 grams), trafficking cocaine base (28–100 grams), trafficking fentanyl, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Both suspects were transported to the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center pending bond hearings.

Chief Chito Walker stated: “I have said it many times and I stand by it. Drugs and the violence that accompanies them have no place in our community. This investigation reflects what we can accomplish when residents speak up and our officers remain committed to the work.”
