Charleston Police investigate second fatal traffic collision of 2026

The Charleston Police Department is investigating a fatal collision that took place on January 12, 2026, on Ashley River Road near Wallace School Road. According to authorities, a pedestrian was attempting to cross the road when they were struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and died several days later.

Police reported that the driver of the vehicle stopped immediately and remained at the scene. The roadway was closed for about three hours following the incident and reopened around 11 p.m.

Officials are asking anyone with information about the collision to contact the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 and request the on-duty Central Detective. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online at www.charleston-sc.gov/tips.

“This is the second fatal traffic-related collision investigated by the Charleston Police Department in 2026.”

So far this year, police have investigated one fatal vehicle-bicycle collision and one auto-pedestrian fatality.
