Charleston Police investigate targeted shooting death in West Ashley

The Charleston Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning in the West Ashley area. Officers responded to reports of gunfire on Tripe Street at around 12:30 a.m. on January 10, 2026, where they found a car in the roadway with a deceased victim inside. The victim had been shot multiple times.

According to detectives, initial findings suggest the victim was specifically targeted and there is no indication that this was a random act of violence. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the victim when appropriate.

Detectives are working to determine all circumstances related to the incident. As part of their investigation, the Special Operations Division executed a search warrant at a residence on Tripe Street. Authorities have stated that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
