Two officers from the Charleston Police Department have been recognized for their service by local organizations. Officer Alexis Bosier was named Officer of the Year by the Charleston Rotary Club, while Officer Cameron Thomakos received the same honor from the Knights of Columbus.
Officer Thomakos was acknowledged for actions throughout the year that included helping evacuate residents during an apartment fire, carrying a baby to safety, deescalating a situation involving an armed person in mental health crisis, and reuniting a lost child with their family. He also contributed to efforts to address vehicle break-ins and thefts, as well as removing illegal firearms and drugs from city streets.
Officer Bosier received her award for community engagement and service. As part of the Community Outreach Bicycle Unit, she has built relationships with residents through regular presence and support. She is known for providing assistance using her own resources when needed. In one instance, she purchased new shoes and clothing for children after noticing one had shoes that were too small.
“These officers have demonstrated excellent values and remarkable service to our community,” according to the Charleston Police Department.
The awards reflect ongoing recognition by local civic groups of police officers who show dedication in their work with Charleston residents.
