Charleston Police recover body of missing man near Patriots Point

The Charleston Police Department has announced the recovery of Owen Kenney’s body. According to police, Harbor Patrol units responded at about 8:45 a.m. on November 8, 2025, after receiving a report of a body in the water near Patriots Point. The response included assistance from the Mount Pleasant Police Department, Charleston County Rescue, and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the recovered body was that of Owen Kenney. Kenney had been reported missing on November 1. Investigators determined that he died by suicide after walking on the Ravenel Bridge pedestrian walkway at 3:49 a.m. on October 31.

Charleston Police Chief Chito Walker stated, “I would like to thank everyone who took part in the effort to get Owen back to his family. We hope this recovery brings some measure of closure to a family experiencing unimaginable loss. We ask that everyone continue to respect the privacy of the Kenney family during this difficult time.”
