Charleston’s law enforcement efforts are part of broader initiatives by the City of Charleston to preserve and improve residents’ quality of life, as outlined on its official mission page. The city also works with regional government entities to enhance these efforts, according to its website.
The City of Charleston encompasses areas around Charleston Harbor and has influence within the wider Charleston–North Charleston–Summerville region, as detailed on its official website. The city highlights its historical significance through sites such as the Old Slave Mart Museum, which addresses the domestic slave trade (more here). The Council Chamber, dating back to 1818, retains original chandeliers and historic portraits (details here), including original Thomas Edison light bulbs that functioned until 1983.
