Charleston Police have confirmed a transition from search operations to recovery efforts in the case of Owen Tillman Kenney, a 19-year-old who was reported missing on October 31, 2025. According to police, recently obtained video evidence showed that at 3:49 a.m. on October 31, Kenney walked onto the Ravenel Bridge pedestrian walkway and took his own life.

As a result of this discovery, authorities have shifted their focus from searching for Kenney to recovering his remains. Multiple partner agencies are assisting in these efforts to help provide closure for Kenney’s family.

Chief Chito Walker stated, “Our priority has always been and will remain Owen’s family. This is a real case involving a real family living through unimaginable pain, and they deserve compassion, privacy, and support from all of us.”

The Charleston Police Department continues to maintain contact with the Kenney family and will keep them informed as recovery operations proceed.

For individuals experiencing emotional distress or crisis, support is available by calling or texting 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at any time.
