The City of Charleston will hold a public meeting on September 4 to discuss the possibility of converting Coming Street, Rutledge Avenue, and Ashley Avenue from one-way to two-way traffic. The meeting is scheduled from 5-7 PM at Bethel United Methodist Church at 57 Pitt Street.

According to city officials, the session aims to give residents, business owners, and other stakeholders a chance to review findings from an ongoing feasibility study, ask questions, and provide feedback. Community input is expected to influence decisions about the future direction of the project.

The Department of Traffic and Transportation began this study in April 2025. Kimley-Horn, a transportation consulting firm with national recognition, was hired to conduct a review of current conditions and perform preliminary analysis. The study focuses on potential impacts such as changes in traffic flow, parking availability, mobility options, safety considerations, and neighborhood livability.

The corridors under consideration pass through the medical district as well as several historic neighborhoods. Areas most directly affected include Harleston Village, Radcliffeborough, Westside, and Cannonborough/Elliottborough. However, all members of the community are invited to attend and participate in the discussion.

For additional information about the project or details regarding the public meeting and RSVP process via Eventbrite, interested parties can visit the city’s official website.
