Charleston softball falls to Georgia State in final game of weekend series

The College of Charleston softball team lost 7-0 to Georgia State on Sunday, concluding a three-game series. The Cougars now hold an 8-11 record overall and went 1-2 over the weekend.

Charleston’s first hit came from Austy Miller in the bottom of the first inning. Miller advanced to second base with a stolen base but was caught attempting to steal third. Pitcher Campbell Schaen limited Georgia State to one run through two innings and recorded a strikeout in the second.

Leela Langston singled up the middle in the fourth inning for Charleston, but the team was unable to score. Ryley Kutter took over pitching duties in the fifth inning, during which Georgia State increased its lead to 5-0. Kutter kept Georgia State from scoring in the sixth and struck out one batter, but two more runs were added by Georgia State in the seventh inning.

Charleston managed four hits during the game, with Langston responsible for two of them. Both Schaen and Kutter pitched for Charleston against Georgia State.

Looking ahead, Charleston will play at Wofford on Tuesday, March 3 at 6 p.m., followed by a game at Clemson on Wednesday, March 4 at 6 p.m. The Cougars will return home to start conference play against Monmouth on Friday, March 6 with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
