Charleston Southern lost their last road nonconference baseball game of the season to Georgia Southern by a score of 18-4, according to an April 28 announcement.

The result marks the end of Charleston Southern’s away games outside their conference for this year. The Buccaneers scored first with a Garrison Barile RBI groundout, but Georgia Southern responded with four runs in the bottom of the first and continued to build their lead throughout the game.

Georgia Southern added two more runs in the third inning and five in the fourth, making it an 11-1 game. Charleston Southern managed three runs in the sixth inning, including a sacrifice fly from Barile and RBI singles by Alex Marot and Chandler Tuupo. However, Georgia Southern scored seven more times in their half of the sixth, putting them ahead 18-4. The Buccaneers did not score again before the game ended after seven innings due to run rule.

Charleston Southern recorded four hits as a team during the contest, with Barile leading at the plate with two RBIs. Five pitchers took turns on the mound for Charleston Southern; Tristan Stephenson was noted as not allowing any runs during his appearance when he pitched a scoreless sixth inning.

Looking ahead, Charleston Southern will take a week off for student-athletes’ final exams before returning home for a matchup against College of Charleston on May 5 at 6 p.m. They are scheduled to play Longwood on the road from May 8-10 and will finish out their regular season at home against Radford from May 14-16. The top six teams in league standings will qualify for participation in the Big South Championships set for Asheville from May 20-23.
