Charleston Southern men’s basketball completes sweep of Gardner-Webb

Charleston Southern University’s men’s basketball team secured a 75–66 win over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday night, completing a season sweep after previously defeating the Runnin’ Bulldogs 89–79 in December.

The Bucs established an early lead with contributions from A’lahn Sumler and Lase Olalere, starting the game with a 7–2 run. Reis Jones extended CSU’s advantage to double digits in the first half, while Trent Coleman matched his career high by scoring 12 points before halftime. Charleston Southern led 40–28 at the break.

After halftime, Sumler continued to drive the offense, scoring a total of 27 points, with 18 coming from inside the paint. Gardner-Webb attempted to rally in the second half with a 15–7 run but never closed the gap to less than seven points. CSU maintained control and earned its 13th victory of the season.

A’lahn Sumler led all scorers for Charleston Southern with his sixth-highest point total this year. Jesse Hafemeister contributed on defense, leading the team in rebounds for the fifth time this season with 11 boards. Freshman Jacob Taylor added nine points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals, and went five-for-five at the free-throw line after earning his third Big South Freshman of the Week award on Monday. Trent Coleman finished with 12 points on perfect shooting from the field.

Charleston Southern will next face Longwood University on Tuesday, February 21st. The previous meeting between these teams ended in an overtime loss for CSU (79–81). The upcoming game is scheduled for a 4:00 P.M. tip-off and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
