After a week without travel, the Charleston Southern University men’s basketball team is set for two consecutive away games as part of the fourth week of Big South conference play. The Buccaneers will face Presbyterian College on January 21 and Longwood University on January 24.

Charleston Southern’s first matchup is against Presbyterian in Clinton, South Carolina. Last season, CSU lost to the Blue Hose 71–61 during their visit. In that game, Reis Jones scored 12 points and collected seven rebounds for the Buccaneers.

Presbyterian currently holds a 3–2 record in Big South conference play. Last week, they secured victories over UNC Asheville (71–70) and Gardner-Webb (92–55). The team’s standout player is Jonah Pierce, a redshirt senior forward who averages 19.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game in conference action. Pierce has recorded ten double-doubles this season after missing most of last year due to injury.

Jaylen Peterson, another key player for Presbyterian, averages more than 30 minutes per game with 14.2 points and seven rebounds per contest. He set a school record with 52 blocks last season while filling in for Pierce.

In the backcourt, junior Carl Parrish has stepped into a leading role following the departure of All-Big South guard Kory Mincy. Parrish averages 14.8 points per game in league play and shoots 51 percent from the field.

Presbyterian is coached by Quinton Ferrell, now in his seventh season as head coach and twelfth overall with the program. Ferrell’s teams have combined for 28 wins over the past two seasons—the best stretch of his career—and have already reached ten wins this year.

Charleston Southern leads the all-time series against Presbyterian with a record of 23–15.

The second road contest for CSU will be at Longwood University on January 24. In their previous meeting last season in Farmville, Longwood narrowly defeated Charleston Southern by five points (83–78).

Longwood enters this week with a conference record identical to CSU at 2–3 after losing to Radford by two points (85–83) last week. Elijah Tucker led Longwood in that game with 17 points and 16 rebounds; he currently averages 12.4 points and eight rebounds through five conference games.

Saturday’s matchup will feature Richmond natives Brycen Blaine (CSU) and Redd Thompson Jr., Longwood’s top scorer who recently posted a season-high of 21 points against Radford.

Ronnie Thomas serves as head coach for Longwood after being promoted from assistant coach in March 2025.
