Charleston Southern University’s men’s track and field team began their weekend competition at the Doc Hale Invite in Blacksburg, Virginia on Friday evening. Several athletes posted notable performances during the first day of the meet.
Aden Price set a new personal record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.66 seconds, making it the sixth-fastest time in Charleston Southern history for that event. Jayden Anderson and Hunter Adams also competed in the 400 meters, finishing with times of 50.42 and 50.70 seconds respectively.
In the 60-meter dash, Laden Beckwith advanced to the finals after running a preliminary time of 6.83 seconds. He later finished third overall with a final time of 6.91 seconds.
Griffin Gillespie matched his career best in the one-mile run by finishing fifth at the meet with a time of 4:05.72, which is still ranked as fourth-best in school history. In distance events, Martin Iriondo achieved a personal best in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:06.77, maintaining his position as fourth-fastest in program history for that race.
Other notable performances included Collin Kleinhen’s second-place finish among Charleston Southern runners in the mile (4:16.59) and Caleb Kenyon’s season-best result of 8:24.63 in the 3K for second on the squad.
In field events, Tarrell Miles came close to surpassing his personal record in the weight throw, recording a top mark of 17.56 meters for his best attempt of the day.
The Buccaneers are scheduled to return to Virginia Tech’s campus on Saturday for the concluding day of competition at the Doc Hale Invite.
