Charleston Southern University’s Marina Skegro and Amike Botha were named the final Women’s Tennis Player and Freshman of the Week by the Big South Conference on Apr. 14. The awards recognize their performances during the last week of the 2026 regular season.
The recognition highlights Charleston Southern’s strong finish to the season, with both athletes delivering notable results in singles and doubles play against UNC Asheville.
Skegro finished her college career with a record of 15-3 against Big South opponents. She won her singles match against UNC Asheville’s top player, Angelina Joy Hug, in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). In doubles competition alongside Carlota Farres, Skegro was one point away from securing another win before play was halted.
Botha ended her regular season on an eight-match winning streak in singles after a straight-set victory (6-4, 6-2) over a UNC Asheville opponent. Teaming up with her sister Carlé in doubles, Botha helped secure a dominant win (6-2) on court two.
Charleston Southern is set to compete again on Friday, April 17 at noon against third-seeded UNC Asheville Bulldogs in the semi-final round of the Big South Women’s Tennis Championship tournament in Lexington, South Carolina.
