Charleston Southern University’s women’s basketball team received recognition in the Big South postseason awards announced Tuesday. Tyonna Bailey was named to the All-Conference First Team, while Alba Garcia earned a spot on the All-Academic Team.
Bailey is now the third player under head coach Clarisse White to achieve First-Team All-Conference honors at Charleston Southern. According to the university, this underscores White’s role in developing top-level talent within the program.
During conference play, Bailey led all players in scoring with an average of 20.1 points per game, making her the only athlete in league action to surpass 20 points per contest. She also ranked third overall in rebounding at 8.5 per game—the highest among guards—and topped the conference for defensive rebounds with 6.9 per game. Bailey was unique as the only player ranked in both the top three for scoring and rebounding during Big South competition.
Her season included two Big South Player of the Week selections (January 5 and February 2), ten games with at least 20 points, and two games where she scored over 30 points. One highlight was a career-high 31-point performance against No. 18 North Carolina Tar Heels women’s basketball. She recorded six double-doubles during conference play and scored in double figures across 22 games, finishing the regular season with an active streak of 18 consecutive double-digit outings.
Garcia’s inclusion on the All-Academic Team reflects her achievements both academically and athletically, which aligns with Charleston Southern’s emphasis on success inside and outside of sports.
The Buccaneers will face Radford Highlanders, seeded second, on Thursday, March 5 at 6:00 p.m., opening their campaign at the Air Force Reserve Big South Basketball Championships held in Johnson City, Tennessee.
