Charleston Southern University’s women’s basketball team will host UNC Asheville and Presbyterian in two upcoming Big South Conference games at Buccaneer Fieldhouse. The first matchup is set for February 4 at 6:00 p.m. against UNC Asheville, followed by a game against Presbyterian on February 7 at 2:00 p.m. Both contests will be available to watch on ESPN+.
The Buccaneers enter the week with a 7-14 overall record and a 5-4 mark in conference play, coming off an 85-62 victory over USC Upstate. In that game, Charleston Southern recorded one of its most efficient offensive performances in program history, making 56.5 percent of their three-point attempts and maintaining the lead for nearly the entire contest. This performance marks their second-highest single-game three-point shooting percentage ever.
Junior guard Tyonna Bailey has been named Big South Player of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 26.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and four three-pointers made per game last week. She had a standout performance at USC Upstate with 28 points and nine rebounds, her eighth game this season scoring more than twenty points. Bailey currently leads all players in conference games with an average of 21.4 points per game and has led Charleston Southern in scoring ten times this year.
Caelan Ellis contributed with her third twenty-point outing of the season at USC Upstate, scoring twenty-one points and ranking second in the conference for three-pointers made per game (2.8). Asha Sra was close to recording a triple-double during that match-up with twelve points, eleven rebounds, and eight assists; she leads the Big South in both assists per game (4.6) and total assists (101).
Charleston Southern currently leads the Big South Conference in three-pointers made per game (8.9), which ranks them twentieth nationally.
UNC Asheville enters Wednesday’s matchup with an overall record of eight wins and fourteen losses (3-6 in conference play). The Bulldogs are known for their defense against long-range shooting, limiting opponents to just 25.8 percent from beyond the arc this season. Nia Green is their leading player with averages of fourteen point seven points and seven rebounds per game along with six double-doubles this year. Charleston Southern has won each of its last three meetings against UNC Asheville.
Presbyterian arrives holding a record of three wins and nineteen losses (1-8 in conference play). Ja’Cia Cunningham is averaging ten point six points per game while Krystal Haddock has secured double-digit rebounds over her last three outings. Saturday’s contest will be their second meeting this season; Charleston Southern previously earned a narrow road win over Presbyterian on January 23.
