The Charleston Southern women’s basketball team will finish its regular season with two Big South Conference games this week. The Buccaneers are scheduled to play at Longwood on Wednesday, followed by a home game against Winthrop on Saturday for Senior Day.
Charleston Southern currently holds an 8-19 overall record and is 6-8 in conference play after a recent 92-78 loss to Radford. The team remains in the middle of the Big South standings as the regular season concludes.
Junior guard Tyonna Bailey has been a key player for the Buccaneers. She recently recorded her fourth consecutive double-double, scoring 14 points and collecting 11 rebounds against Radford. This marks her sixth double-double of the season. Bailey leads Charleston Southern in both scoring and rebounding during conference play.
“Bailey continues to lead CSU in both scoring and rebounding during conference play,” according to the team.
Caelan Ellis also contributed significantly in the last game, finishing with 23 points. Ellis has scored in double figures in 20 games this season. The Buccaneers shot 50 percent from three-point range in their last outing and lead the Big South Conference in three-pointers made per game.
Saturday’s contest against Winthrop will serve as Senior Day at Buccaneer Fieldhouse.
Longwood enters Wednesday’s matchup with an 18-9 overall record and a 9-5 mark in Big South action. The Lancers average over 76 points per game while holding opponents to about 66 points, placing them among league leaders in scoring margin. They force more than 24 turnovers per game and average nearly 14 steals per contest. Longwood previously defeated Charleston Southern earlier this season, winning by a score of 83-63.
Winthrop comes into the week at 13-15 overall and shares Charleston Southern’s conference record at 6-8. The Eagles average just over 66 points per game and force more than 21 turnovers per contest. Amourie Porter leads Winthrop with an average of over 16 points and nearly seven rebounds per game. In their previous meeting, Winthrop defeated Charleston Southern by nine points.
